Cinta Hari-Hari Kurungan (Hari Ketujuh)
"Saya sedang mengemas perpustakaan saya.

As a child, I would sit at my mother's feet and watch her drink coffee and smoke cigarettes with a book on her lap. Her absorption intrigued me.

Putting together my "ideal bookshelf" was a lot like having to make those readings list back in Sumatra. Forget any pedantic bullshit, forget trying to make my list look smarter than everybody's else's - what book would I actually get off on?

To me, poetry is the thing that is the most difficult to master when you write in a second language. Writing prose is one thing, but writing poetry is something else. I put Elizabeth Bishop on my shelf because I love her poems.

The crossover of mediums and disciplines is something that really interests me; I think it brings energy to the other projects I do. In some ways, I've learned not to run from my identity as an actor or as someone involved in a lot of things. I've actually learned to embrace that.
